Wondering how to add alcohol to cupcakes?
This part is super easy, just pour in some liqueur and there you go! 😉 Okay, it’s a bit more precise than that, so follow my creamy liqueur cupcakes recipe below.
But seriously, you can add any alcohol to this recipe or any other boozy cupcake recipe you find online. Alcohol can be added to the cupcake batter as well as in the icing.
If you want to stick with a creamy liqueur but can’t find any vegan options in your local shop then you can try making your own! I love this Homemade Baileys recipe by Loving It Vegan.
Which creamy liqueurs are vegan?

💭 Expert Tips
Don’t over mix your batter
The ingredients only need to be combined for this recipe. Over mixing your batter can cause the cupcakes to be too dense.
Only ice cupcakes that have cooled down completely!
As tempting as it may be to decorate your boozy chocolate cupcakes right away, it will be worth it to wait until these Baileys infused cupcakes have cooled down completely.
Check if they are cooked!
Insert a toothpick into the middle of the cupcakes to ensure that they have cooked through. If the toothpick comes out clean, they're cooked! If there is some batter on the toothpick, let the cupcakes (and cakes as this works for any batter!) cook for another minute and then check again.
Try not to open the oven too often as this will let the heat escape.
Don’t worry if the mixture is very thick, these liqueur cupcakes will still bake well. My batter was extremely thick because my kitchen was so cold and the coconut oil hardened!

Frequently asked questions
Boozy cupcakes your regular old cupcakes but with alcohol tossed into the batter and/or icing. Be sure you warn your guests that these are adult cupcakes!
I suppose this depends on how you handle your alcohol 😉 But, I do think it is highly unlikely (unless you eat a lot of them! But then you may have bigger problems, like stomach ache, or a hectic sugar crash). The recipe calls for just over 1 cup of liqueur, divided between 24 cupcakes would mean there is only about 10ml of liqueur in each Amarula cupcake.
Follow the recipe below as this is a tried and tested alcohol cupcake recipe. But you can add any other type of alcohol to this recipe. Liqueur can be added to the cupcake batter as well as in the icing.
Contrary to popular belief, the alcohol will not evaporate completely out of the batter while it is baking.
